Taking a long exposure photo is accomplished by adjusting your camera settings to allow for the shutter to close at a relatively slower speed than you see in most photos. Just imagine the camera is keeping its "eye" open for an extended period of time, capturing all of the information and action that takes place while it is open. This is a really fun technique for me to practice because there are so many unique possibilities.
From Top Left to Bottom Right
KKIDD Basketball - This was taken during IDK’s 2nd Annual KKIDD Family Reunion, and it was inspired by another photographer’s work I admire named Cameron Look, photographer for Lebron James & his family. His work changed my perception on photography. Sometimes the best photos truly capture the action and motion rather than simply freezing someone in time.
Stars & Lights - I’ve always wondered what it was like to try and capture the stars, and it requires a TON of patience. It requires even more patience when you’re trying to balance the overbearing light of a car with the dim lights in the sky as I did with this photo.
Nardo's Ghost - This ghostly photo of Nardo Wick was taken at Bowie State University’s homecoming. He was relatively slow-paced in terms of his movement, so I knew this would come out in an interesting way.
Raging Zhariah - This was taken during Zhariah’s Afropunk performance in Brooklyn, NY. I love how the photo shows the chaotic nature of her rockstar persona, and I love that you can see her full name in the background.
“How Dare They?” - This was the day that Roe v. Wade was overturned in a 5-4 vote by the Supreme Court. There was a moment where I was running to chase down the front of this particular protest marching line, and I could literally see people marching as far as my eyes could see. With this long exposure photo, I wanted to show the expeditious marchers, and interestingly enough, the red white and blue stripes seen throughout reminded me of a waving American flag. An American flag, composed by its rightfully upset citizens.
